Background

—————

I grew up on the stella Sunshine Coast, surrounded by beautiful beaches and a vibrant water sports culture. From a young age, my father would take us on his jet ski and ride around the bay. I think that is where it all really started for me. I was drawn to the ocean and spent countless hours jet skiing with my friends as I got older. My love for adrenaline led me to pursue a career as a stunt performer, where I’ve been able to combine my passion for water sports with film and television projects.

You’re currently training to participate in the P1 AquaX competition. What specifically drew you to the P1 AquaX events?

—————

The P1 AquaX is the pinnacle of jet ski racing. It combines speed, skill, and strategy, which I find incredibly appealing. It’s not just about going fast; it's about navigating challenging courses and competing against some of the best riders in the world. I see it as a way to push my limits and showcase my skills.

Can you describe your training regimen as you prepare for the AquaX?

—————

My training is quite intense. I spend several hours a day on the water, practicing various techniques like cornering, jumping, and maintaining speed over waves. I also focus on my physical fitness—strength training, endurance workouts, and flexibility exercises are crucial. Off the water, I study race footage and strategies to improve my performance.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face while training?

—————

One of the biggest challenges is mastering the balance between speed and control. It’s easy to get caught up in going fast, but if you can’t handle the turns or the rough water, you’re not going to perform well. Weather conditions can also be unpredictable, which adds an extra layer of difficulty.

How do you handle the pressure of competition, especially coming from a stunt background?

—————

My experience in stunts has definitely helped me manage pressure. In stunts, you learn to stay calm and focused, even in high-stress situations. I use visualization techniques to mentally prepare for races, envisioning myself executing every maneuver perfectly.

What advice would you give to aspiring jet ski racers?

—————

I would say to anyone looking to get into jet ski racing:

Start Slow: Begin with basic skills before progressing to advanced techniques. Familiarize yourself with your jet ski and its handling.

Practice Regularly: Spend as much time on the water as you can. Consistent practice helps build muscle memory and confidence.

Join a Community: Connect with local clubs or teams. Learning from experienced riders can accelerate your development.

Stay Fit: Focus on your physical fitness, including strength, endurance, and flexibility. This will enhance your performance on the water.

Watch and Learn: Analyze race footage and learn from the techniques of seasoned competitors. Understanding different strategies can be invaluable.

Safety First: Always prioritize safety. Wear appropriate gear and ensure your equipment is in top condition.

Have Fun: Remember to enjoy the process. The thrill of the sport is what keeps you motivated!

What are your goals for the upcoming P1 AquaX season?

—————

My main goal is to compete at my highest level and hopefully secure a top finish. I want to learn from each race, improve my skills, and inspire others in the sport. Ultimately, I want to bring the excitement of jet skiing and stunts together in a way that showcases both.
